Summary of profile:
From leaving school, I studied for 10 years at College and University, achieving my Honors Degree in Energy Engineering and achieving Chartered Engineer status aged 31. My career was like many an entrepreneur – rolling up the sleeves and working through the ranks, and by the age of 28, I had secured a role as Director of a Building Services Consulting Engineering firm.
Driven by a passion to make a difference and to be instrumental in sustainable building design, I set up Flatt Consulting in 2003. At that time, I felt there was a real need but lack of real focus in delivering truly sustainable environments.
Within the practice I lead on strategy and performance of the firm, supporting major strategic clients and bringing a best-practice approach to all projects undertaken. I am responsible for assembling and motivating multi-disciplinary teams to efficiently deliver tailored design with a variety of procurement solutions from small to large complex projects.
As a leader of the practice, I am passionate about delivering sustainable projects that meet the client’s requirements whilst achieving the best value possible.
One of my main strengths is that I am an ideas person, channelling them through my team. I like to be influential in making bold decisions for a building or environment and to constantly break new ground, whether it is the introduction of natural ventilation strategies or significantly reducing a buildings’ carbon emissions.
Outside of engineering:
I am the classic multiple enthusiast of many things including cycling, clay shooting, skiing and I’m a trainee paddle boarder which is fun with the family. I love watersports and the outdoors, especially snowy cold adventures! This drew me to completing the Arctic Trek back in January 2018!
