Mechanical, Electrical & Public Health Services
Expertise
FLATT provide a complete design service to meet a Client’s requirements, from ‘Concept’ to fully detailed ‘Technical’ designs.
To support planning applications, we advise on the development of the building providing energy statements, studies to optimise the building fabric and minimise summer overheating and space planning.
We also offer a design validation service to provide Clients with comfort on the design proposals prepared by others.
During construction, our site monitoring services include technical reviews of the contractor’s proposals, regular inspections of the works and witnessing and snagging of the installations.
After completion, we can provide post occupation support including seasonal commissioning reviews.
Design Services
The Building Services systems we provide designs for include:
- Utility Services – Electric, Gas, Water, Telecoms, Data
- Heating – District, Communal and Independent Systems
- Air Conditioning and Comfort Cooling Systems
- Mechanical and Natural Ventilation Systems
- Electrical Installations – Power, Standby Generation, UPS, Transfomers
- Lighting – External, Internal and Emergency Systems
- Safety – Fire Alarm, Security, Access Control, CCTV Installations
- Public Health – Hot & Cold Water, Above and Below Ground Drainage, Rainwater Collection and Recycling
- Building Controls and Management Systems Including Energy Metering
- Lifts
Approach
We encourage a collaborative approach to the design, with spatial requirements and servicing options clearly identified from the outset, allowing the detailed design to develop with confidence.
We use the most advanced Dynamic Simulation software to analyse a buildings performance. This enables us to achieve the most appropriate design solutions for each individual project.
Our drawings are produced in the latest AutoCAD, REVIT/BIM software to meet a projects requirements.
Heat Generation and District Heating Design
The design of a District Energy Network (DEN) depends on a variety of factors including:
- Heat generated can be used for hot water generation and space heating
- The scale of the development
- Integration of combined heat and power plant
- Integration of air source heat pumps or other renewable heat generators
- Local Authority energy and emission targets
- Incorporation of design standards for diversity and building use/occupation type
- Realistic and cost-conscious commitments in Energy Statements
- District heating designs will be divided into separate parts such as the production area and central boiler plant, the pre-insulated pipes and distribution network and the consumption area and substation
- Durable components and resilience are essential
- Eliminate unnecessary over-sizing of plant to achieve the lowest capital cost and fuel consumption
