This year, we have chosen to make a generous donation to our chosen charity ‘The Genies Wish’.
The Genies Wish is a UK registered charity who’s mission is to enhance the lives of people aged 0-40, living in England and Wales, who are suffering from a critical or terminal illness or living with a life-limiting medical condition.
Their purpose is to bring respite and joy into the lives of their beneficiaries and their families by providing them with a life-changing wish, experience or ongoing opportunity. They are also the first UK charity to break the age barrier for granting ‘wishes’ to those over the age of 20.
We are always keen to help make a difference and support a good cause and are therefore delighted to announce that our donation will contribute towards getting this commendable charity up and running and granting the charity’s first wish!
This wish has been requested by Helena on behalf of herself and her adorable 18 month old son, Selby.
Helena was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at the young age of 2 as a result of being born at 30 weeks. She has had over 9 orthopaedic operations and is a full time wheelchair user.
Helena also suffers from Undifferentiated Connective Tissue Disease. This is a mix of Autoimmune Diseases including Lupus, Sjogren’s Syndrome and Antiphospholipid Syndrome – a blood clotting disorder – all of which were diagnosed in 2013 and she has since been receiving ongoing treatment in an attempt to suppress her immune system and to try and keep disease activity down.
Her wish is to have her very first holiday break with Selby at CBeebies Land in Alton Towers to see his favourite TV characters and stay in a ‘themed’ room, which due to the Covid pandemic and accessibility limitations, has not previously been possible.
It’s through the hard work of the team at The Genies Wish and the charitable donations they receive that can make it possible to grant these special wishes.
