Part 1 PV Panel benefits – are there any advantages

2nd March 2023

We are all aware of the need to reduce carbon emissions and the government’s target of achieving Net Zero by 2050. This requires that all new buildings should include solar panels in order to offset carbon emissions. But what about existing buildings? Is there any advantage to installing Solar PV panels in this situation?

With the cost of energy continuing to rise, installing solar panels and generating your own electricity makes a lot of sense for any business.

The equivalent lifetime cost of electricity generated on site from solar panels is under 10p per kWh.  This compares to current electricity prices ranging typically from 45-90p/kWh for electricity purchased from the grid.

Therefore, a solar PV installation can assist in giving energy price security particularly in this time of economic uncertainty.

A well-designed system will more than pay for itself and will significantly improve your company’s carbon footprint.

Roof mounted solar panels typically have an installed cost of between £1,200 – £1,500 per kWp, and a single kWp of PV could typically generate between 700 and 1,000 kWh per year.  If all the electricity generated can be used on site, this can result in an electrical cost saving of more than £600 per annum, typically giving a payback of between 2 – 3 years.
